Brian Hanson Appleton
Despite of being taken hostage for a period of time in Iran, author Brian Hanson Appleton also known as Rasool Aryadust reflects on Iranian culture on his book Tales from the Zirzameen. He is an American who is passionate about the rich culture and hospitality of the Iranian people. An advocate of peace between Iran and America, he strives on the impact of his writings for a better cause. He wants the entire world to know that amidst the conflict that’s long been going on in Iran, behind are people of hope and sincerity.
Appleton was born in Tokyo, Japan, on March 18, 1950. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from George Washington University, graduated Phi Beta Kappa. But it was when he lived and worked in Iran from 1974-1979 that he fell in love with the culture and people of Iran.
He is a lighting designer by profession, but he is actively involved for advocacies on peace and on women’s rights. He writes columns for CASMII (Campaign Against Sanctions and Military Invasion of Iran) and a proud member of the Feminine Majority and of NOW (National Organization for Women's Rights.)
He is now residing in Northern California with his wife and two sons.
