Memoir to be written in first or third person?
I apologize if the question is quite silly. Should a memoir be written in first or third person?
It seems to me, that the choice is ultimately yours. No matter which one you choice, the secret is to STICK with that choice. Moving between the three options can add unnecessary noise/confusion to the writing.

Hi Marnelli. Memoirs are usually written on the second person's perspective. But if it's a narrative autobiography, of course, you'll have to write it using the first person. Are you planning to write a memoir for someone?

I coauthored my aunt Miriam's memoir, Miriam Daughter of Finnish Immigrants, it's written in first person. I'm writing my own memoir about my journey as a widow. With the strong emotions connected to my experience, I struggled with getting the story on paper. I found writing the first twenty pages or so in third person helped me get started. Now the story is flowing and hope to have it published this fall. Miriam's memoir can be ordered through my author center at http://outskirtspress.com/dianedettmann

In my opinion memoirs must be written in the first person. If it is written in third person it loses the intimacy betweem book and reader and reads like a biography.
