It's Dylan here. I am a first time book publisher, i am confused on which marketing tools are efficient and affordable. Should i go for internet marketing or do it the old fashioned way? I just don't think the internet is the best place to market my book...

looking forward to your advise.

thanks

Affordable Book Marketing

An author should establish a presence and MAKE FRIENDS on the various social websites (Facebook, Twitter, Goodreads, etc.) BEFORE he starts pushing his book.

Also, contribute reviews and articles on like books to Amazon.com.

Finally, establish a presence on websites devoted to subjects akin to your book. For example, if your book deals with automobiles, join any forums that might deal with that subject.

Affordable and Efficient Marketing Tools

Hello Dylan!
Thank you for posting here at BookWhirl.com’s Forum. It’s normal to be confused. I understand that you want to make the most out of your funds.

Here’s my answer to your question.

Internet marketing is the most affordable and efficient marketing method for your book. It allows you to reach millions of people around the world at a minimal cost.

You can do any of the following:
1. Get your own customized website that will be the foundation for your internet marketing efforts.
2. Set up your own blog and discuss topics that are related to your book, the book publishing industry or about anything that you fancy.
3. You can list or post your books to free online directories which generate online exposure for your book as well as create your own media release and post it online to free online sites such as www.prlog.org and www.free-press-release.com among others. Make sure that these postings will have a link to your website for the reader to gain more information about you and your work.

If you want to be more proactive in reaching more people, you can have an email campaign. This is much cheaper compared to handing out brochures, flyers, business cards, postcards, bookmarks, and etc. wherein you are limited to a certain number of people and area. The printing cost for these materials is also very expensive plus you need to allocate a portion of your time in handing out these items to people.

With an email campaign, you get to reach a wider audience. If you do not have your own list or if your list is limited, there are always email providers that can accommodate your needs with their opt-in email list. These providers usually have a target list that features different categories such as cars, books, general consumers, arts, movies, etc. wherein millions of people have subscribed to receive email notifications about what’s new and hot in these categories. So if your book is about gardening, you can target the Home & Garden Interest Category. Your email advertisement wouldn’t be of any waste since people who are interested will open and click your email ad which will lead them to your website or to an online bookstore of your choice where they can buy a copy of your book.

Just imagine the exposure that would be generated for your book if you were to have an email campaign that would be distributed to 1 million people. Let’s just say about 5% will open the email ad and be interested in your book, that would mean that your book advertisement reached across 50,000 people and if the book advertisement is properly written and designed, who knows how many people would purchase a copy of your book. You do the math. =)

If you have follow-up questions, please don’t hesitate to ask. I would gladly answer them at the very best that I can.

website

Hello, just joined the forum and so far has been so helpful! I've been researching websites-I want to be found on the internet is optimizing my website nescessary-? Do I need to pay someone to optimize my website (seo)? I've been pounded with information about this topic and I get conflicting views about it. Some say just do google adwords for your site and others say to get it optimized. I can't believe how much some want to charge to optimize your site.

My next question-what is the best place to get a website-I went to wordpress and my head hurt after a week. I've called six places and just don't know who to choose.

Thank you! I've published (self published) my first book and have a second one to be released soon and have a DVD I need to get on my site to sell.

Thank you Laura Irby

If you don't have any website

If you don't have any website yet, BookWhirl.com offers Web Design service that's already SEO friendly. Just like the websites we created for our clients, they ranked 1st in the search engines if they search for their names.

Creating a free WordPress account won’t make it fully optimized, unless you pay for it, buying a domain name, hosting service and the hassle of setting-up the site.

As far as website is concerned yes it is necessary for you to optimize the site, like the meta tag, meta description as well as the keywords of choice for your site to rank with on major search engines.

Google Adwords is a different aspect, it is more on SEM (Search Engine Marketing), while SEO is more in Organic SERP result for keywords.

I hope i have answered your concern.

If you have further questions, please don't hesitate to post them.

Sincerely,

Don Harold
